On Friday night, the NAIT Ooks hosted the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder in a play-in game for the ACAC Men's Volleyball Championship. The Ooks won 3-0, earning their spot in the ACAC Championship.
In the first set, both teams started strong, neither willing to give anything more than one point more than the other however, it didn't last long, and the Ooks took control leading the match with terrific hits from number nine Ross Bishop and five Carter Hills. Though the Thunder made great plays from number eleven Carson Hillburn, it wasn't enough to take the set, and the Ooks blocks effectively shut down the Thunders' attempts. Ooks won the set.
Ooks won the first set 25-16, leading the match 1-0.
In the second set, the Thunder took the lead early with great offensive plays, but it didn't last, and the Ooks took it and began leading the set as the Thunder struggled to hit around the Ooks blocks from Nine Ross Bishop and six Daniel Ward. With the Thunder falling behind, they called a timeout to regroup and shift the momentum. Though the Thunder had great kills from number fifteen Kurt Neihoff and seven Kyle Robertson, the Ooks continued to dominate the game with kills from number five Carter Hills and eight Jared Robert.
Ooks won the second set 25-18, leading the match 2-0.
The third set started out close, with neither team getting ahead. The Ooks began to pull away with great kills from number eleven Felix Dufour, but the Ooks' errors began to pile up, and the Thunder took the lead. The set was electric, with massive rallies. The Ooks took the lead the Ooks won the set 25-21
Ook won the set 25-21, winning the match 3-0.
The players of the game were number nine, Ross Bishop, from the Ooks and number sixteen, Rhees Moss, from the Thunder.
