EDMONTON, ALTA. - McMurtry leads the Queens to a 2-1 come from behind victory over the Ooks Friday night in the NAIT Arena.
Following a scoreless first period, Jordan McMillan scored a short-handed goal, 6 seconds into the second period to give the Ooks a 1-0 lead. The goaltending battle between NAIT's Kaitlyn Slator and former Ook netminder Karlee Fetch as they would combine to keep the rest of the period scoreless.
The defensive struggle continued well into the third period before Kaely McMurtry scored at the 15:39 mark of the period on the power play to tie the game at one. McMurtry would then score another goal minutes after with on 90 seconds to play in the third. The late game tally would prove to be the winner as the Queens were able to come from behind late to steal the home opener from the Ooks. Shots were 27-25 in favour of the Queens.
The two teams will now rematch in Red Deer at 7:00 pm Saturday night, in the second game of the opening weekend home and home series.
