The Ooks attempted to equalize the game in the remaining minutes of the third, but MacEwan held on for the 1-0 victory, taking a 1-0 series lead.
"We played an experienced team tonight, it was expected that they would come out ready to play. I think we both had good scoring chances, they just happened to capitalize on one of them. It's going to be a tight battle all series long," said NAIT head coach, Stef Thomson.
Karlie Bell's game-winning goal earned her player of the game honours for the Griffins, while Kaitlyn Slator took the honours home for the Ooks.
