Ooks dethrone Queens in a shootout

EDMONTON, Alta. - The NAIT Ooks women's hockey team defeated the RDC Queens 4-3 in a shootout on Friday night in the NAIT Gymnasium.

The Queens jumped out to an early lead five minutes into the game when Carissa Hogan scored on the powerplay. Bre Martin responded later in the frame with a powerplay goal of her own to tie the game at one. Jenessa Fournier gave the RDC the lead once again, with just 45 seconds remaining the first.

The second period resulted in no goals, but that was no indication of how the rest of the game went. The Queens jumped out to a 3-1 lead early in the period again with Hogan getting her second of the game. The Ooks were far from out of it, though, as Livia Lucova would bring the Ooks within one at the 13:35 mark of the final period. The Queens then took a penalty, and on the penalty kill, they would go down another skater as Sydnee Decorby tripped Brittney Savard before the puck was dropped.

On the powerplay, Bre Martin scored her second of the game as she rifled a shot on net that deflected of a Queens defender and in, to tie the game forcing overtime. Overtime would solve nothing; this game needed a shootout. The Ooks third shooter was Livia Lucova, who came down-dropped the puck to her skate, then up to her stick and danced around Karlee Fetch for the goal of the year and two points.
