EDMONTON, Alta. - The NAIT Ooks women's hockey team defeated the SAIT Trojans 2-1 on Saturday night in the NAIT Arena.
The Trojans came out strong taking an early lead as Karmin Mooney beat Kaitlyn Slator to put her team up 1-0. In the second from the Ooks tied the game, as Bre Martin buried a feed from Delaney Martin 1:23 into the frame. The Ooks found themselves on the powerplay midway through the period. With the advantage, Livia Lucova batted a puck out of the air past Kaylan Schellenberg to give NAIT a 2-1 lead.
The Ooks would hold on for the 2-1 win, completing the weekend sweep. Kaitlyn Slator made 25 saves, as Schellenberg made 24 saves for the Trojans.
"It was great to see the team be excited to get back on the ice in a game setting. I loved our energy all weekend long," said NAIT head coach Stef Thomson. "SAIT played well in both games; they gave us trouble in each zone. Despite struggling with the puck, it was great to see a variety of players find the back of the net. I felt our penalty kill and goaltending were our biggest assets this weekend, ultimately allowing us to be successful in both games. I am very excited to see how this motivated group continues to perform moving forward."
