EDMONTON, Alta. - The NAIT Ooks women's hockey team fell to the RDC Queens 2-1 in a shootout on Friday night in the NAIT Arena.
In an early ACAC Women's Hockey Championship semi-final preview, both the NAIT Ooks and RDC Queens came to play. The RDC Queens jumped out to an early lead as Ashley Sutherland beat the Ooks', Ashley Smith. Shortly after, Natsumi Sugimoto tied the game for the Ooks as she scored her first ACAC goal. The game would remain 1-1 through regulation and two overtimes. We would need a shootout to determine the winner. The shootout was a battle of the goaltenders, through four shooters it was tied two goals apiece. It wasn't until the Queens eleventh shooter Ashley Sutherland, beat Ashley Smith to hand RDC a 2-1 victory.
The Ooks and Queens will faceoff again tomorrow night in RDC before they will play for keeps in the first round of the ACAC Championship beginning February 28th.
