EDMONTON, Alta. - The NAIT Ooks traveled down 109 street to the Rogers Downtown Community Arena on Thursday night to take on the MacEwan Griffins in game one of the 2020 ACAC Women's Hockey Championship. The Griffins stole game one 1-0.
The two rival teams started the game evenly matched, exchanging scoring opportunities, while two goalies swapped save after save. The Griffins grabbed some momentum in the second period doubling the Ooks in shotsm resulting in the lone goal of the game from Kyrelle Skoye, who beat NAIT's Kaitlyn Slator.
Despite a late push, the Ooks were unable to solve the Griffins Brianna Sank, who recorded a 21 save shutout, while her counterpart Kaitlyn Slator stopped 31 of 32 shots in the 1-0 loss.
The two teams will now rematch on Saturday in the NAIT Arena at 6:00 pm for game two of the best of five series.
