Your NAIT Ooks host the Olds Broncos in the second game of their home and home. Ooks looking for their second win of the calendar year. The first period was hard checking; both teams played stingy defense. The Ooks controlled most of the play, but the Broncos did a superb job keeping them to the outside, not giving up many high-danger chances. At the tail end of the first, Broncos Forward Jesse Jack beat Ooks star goaltender Kaitlyn Slater on the powerplay, giving the Broncos a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
The second frame was similar to the first. The Broncos struggled to create any high-quality chances at even strength. Ooks had Olds on their heels; they were relentless on the forecheck, forcing many turnovers. It took 34 minutes for the highest-scoring offense to find the back of the net. Defenceman Julianne Crozier threw the puck on net before Sierra Meroniuk redirected it past Broncos goaltender Cienna Kinghorn knotting things up at 1 through 40.
The Broncos carried play for the first portion of the third period before the Ooks regained control. The Ooks controlled play in the offensive zone, but like the first two periods, they had trouble finding the back of the net. Olds clogged the middle making it hard for Ooks players to get pucks through. After 60 minutes, the score was still even at 1; they needed extra time to solve this.
Early In the first overtime, Ooks leading scorer Michaella Kibblewhite made a great play on the half wall fending off the check before finding Cheyenna Harden on a partial breakaway beating Olds goaltender Kinghorn over the shoulder. The Ooks squeaked their way to another victory improving to 8-1 on the season.
