The Ooks hosted Red Deer Queens in a battle of the top two teams in the ACAC. It was a physical first, as both teams were called for multiple body contact penalties early. Neither team was giving an inch. As the first rolled along, the Ooks started to create turnovers in the offensive zone thanks to their relentless forecheck. The Ooks got Into penalty trouble late in that period, but Queens could not capitalize on their opportunities. Both goalies stood tall as it stayed scoreless heading into the first intermission.
In the second, the Queens got on the board early as Kyla Hansel had space to walk in, and she ripped a perfect shot over Slater's glove, giving Red Deer a 1-0 lead. That lead was short-lived as the Ooks continued to get pucks deep, forcing Queens' defense to turn the puck over, which led to high-quality chances for the Ooks. The Ooks finally broke through on a great play by Jessica Engelbrecht; she beat her check off the halfway before ripping it low blocker on Queens' goalie Tanya Disotell-Dunsmore. Moments later, Halle Graham banged home her own rebound in front to give the Ooks a 2-1 lead. The Ooks controlled play all period, getting pucks and bodies to the net; Queens had no answer. If not for Disotell-Dunsmore, the Ooks could have had a healthy lead after 40 minutes of play.
The first few minutes of the third period were very similar to what we saw in the first forty. Ooks were relentless on the forecheck, moving pucks from low to high, getting bodies to the net, making it challenging for Disotell-Dunsmore. The Ooks grabbed a 3-1 lead early in the third; Cheyenna Harden found the loose puck in front before ripping it over the glove of Disotell-Dunsmore. Red Deer was trying to swing momentum in their favor, but the Ooks were holding them to the outside for the ladder half of the frame. With the goalie pulled, Queens made it a one-goal game as Jordyn Mclaughlin threw a seeing-eye shot on the net through a maze of bodies that found the back of the net. The Ooks took a late penalty but were able to hang onto the 3-2 lead as they improved their record to 9-1.
