The Nait Ooks host the Lakeland Rustlers on Friday night.
In the first period, Lakeland controlled much of the play early on. They had the Ooks chasing in the defensive zone, getting to pucks quickly, forcing Ooks defenceman to turn the puck over. Lakeland was slinging the puck around, creating high-quality chances in the slot. Lakeland struck first on a shorthanded rush from forward Asha Petrie. The Ooks settled in, creating some good looks for themselves, but Rustlers goaltender Mackenzie Dojahn made some excellent saves as the period rolled along. Rustlers were up 1-0 heading into the first intermission.
It was a tight-checking affair in the second period as neither team could generate any high-danger chances for themselves. For the majority of the period, it was a defensive battle. The Ooks started to create using their speed, getting to loose pucks. Dojahn continued to stand tall as the Ooks pressured for the tying goal. Both goalies were perfect in the middle frame, and it was still a one-goal game heading into the final period.
In the third, the Ooks came out flying, looking for the equalizer. Ooks were controlling most of the time on attack. Both teams were playing a physical brand of hockey, making it difficult for the opposition to get bodies to the net. Ooks netminder Havana Batke made a few key saves to keep it a one-goal game. Finally, the Ooks were able to beat Dojahn. Forward, Bre Martin found the back of the net on a feed from Harden. With under two minutes remaining, Taylor Premak gave the Ooks a 2-1 lead on a setup from Kibblewhite. With the goalie pulled, Lakeland knotted things up at 2-2 on an Ava Cole shot. Sixty minutes solved nothing.
In four on four overtime, the Rustlers, Olivia Mann, found the loose puck beating Batke for the overtime winner. Rustlers extend their winning streak to four games. The Ooks fall to 9-1-1.
