EDMONTON, Alta. The NAIT Ooks women's soccer team defeated the Holland College Hurricanes 2-0 on Thursday morning at Clareview Turf Field.
The Ooks responded big time in this one following the 4-0 loss yesterday. They controlled the ball and the play for the majority of the game, only allowing one shot on goal. Gracie Hausch had a beautiful strike that blew past Holland's Nicole McInnis to give the Ooks a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute.
In the second half, the Ooks continued to dominate the play, getting several chances. In the 73rd minute, Rebecca Stienwand coraled a rebound amongst the chaos in front of the Hurricanes net and fired it home to put NAIT up 2-0.
"We played with more determination today and tried to keep the pressure on and force turnovers," said Ooks' head coach Carole Holt. "We scored a couple of good goals, and we will need to be even better tomorrow regardless of who we play."
NAIT will now take on the loser of the VIU Mariners and Champlain Cavaliers on Friday at 12:30 pm. The winner will advance to the bronze medal game on Saturday.
"Both teams are very good. We expect tomorrow to be our biggest challenge of the year to date," said Holt.
