SHERWOOD PARK, Alta. – The NAIT Ooks women's soccer team defeated the SAIT Trojans 1-0 in semi-final action of the ACAC Women's Soccer Championship on Saturday afternoon at Emerald Hills Sports Pavilion.
The Ooks came out flying with the wind at their back, spending most of the half in the Trojan's end. NAIT was only able to score one goal in the half. Mackenzie Sharun hit the crossbar on a free-kick, Amanda Giesbecht then headed home the rebound to put the Ooks up 1-0.
In the second half, the Trojans would have the wind on their side, but that didn't stop the Ooks. NAIT kept the pressure on, mirroring the first half. The Trojans failed to get any real scoring chances, and the Ooks missed all of theirs. The game ended 1-0 in favour of the host team.
"I thought we were okay today. The conditions were tough. You have to be a lot more precise with your game when the wind is like this," said Ooks head coach Carole Holt
The Ooks will now play the winner of the Lethbridge College Kodiaks and the Concordia Thunder in the gold medal game at 4:00 pm tomorrow. The Trojans will play the losers at 11:00 am in the bronze medal game.
