Sunday afternoon, the NAIT Ooks women's soccer had their season opener against The King's University Eagles. The Ooks won the game 1-0.
The first half of the game was close as both teams battled for ball possession. Early in the half, two injuries occurred, one for each team, resulting in early substitutions. The aggressive play didn't stop. The Ooks were able to capitalize on a corner kick, taking a 1-0 lead with Alana Mawhinney finishing the play. The first half ended with the Ooks leading 1-0.
The battle between the Ooks and Eagles continued in the second half of the game. The Ooks number 6, Lamisi Sirett, centred the ball to the top of the 18-yard box, where number 14, Rachel Kraft, was able to take the shot. It was a close one that went just over the crossbar of the net. The Eagles defender number 13, Hannah Clarke Demaris, cut off Ooks forward Sarah Weremczuk from taking a shot on net. Neither team scored in the second half, so the Ooks won the game!
The players of the game were number 9, Rayna Hamieh from the Ooks and number 7, Aimee Tiemstrra from the Eagles.
