The NAIT Ooks women's soccer team took on the Lakeland Rustlers on Saturday afternoon at the St. Albert Soccer Association. The Ooks defeated the Rustlers in a tight match with a score of 1-0.
Both teams came out strong in the first half. The Lakeland offence had a tough time letting the ball go, as they only took six shots. The first half resulted in neither team getting on the scoreboard, ending the half with a 0-0 score.
After halftime, both teams were looking to score the first goal of the game. The chances continued for both teams, with Ooks number 22, Kadie Sinclair taking a shot just inside the 18-yard box. However, the Rustlers' keeper, number two, Hayley Fernandes, made the save. Fernandes is on the ACAC leaderboard in saves. Ooks number 16, Toni Burse, was able to get one past Fernandes, though with a beautiful header that was assisted by number 14, Rachel Kraft giving NAIT the 1-0 lead. The Rustlers battled hard to even the score but came up short. The Ooks won the match 1-0!
