On Saturday night, the NAIT Ooks took on the Lethbridge College Kodiaks at the NAIT gym.
In the first set, the Ooks took the lead early, and it seemed that the Kodiaks were struggling to defend against the Ooks' massive hits by number three Anika Dyck and seventeen Kayla Zazula. However, the Kodiaks weren't giving up, winning some incredible rallies and slowly closing the gap with massive kills from number three Jamie Brown. The Ooks were able to hold the Kodiaks at bay, winning the set 25-20 and leading the match 1-0.
The second set was neck and neck, with both teams not letting the other get far ahead. But the Ooks finally broke away, taking the lead, with the Ooks efficiently shutting the Kodiaks down at the net with some terrific blocks by number seventeen Kayla Zazula and thirteen Jessica Zilinski. However, the Kodiaks weren't out yet, with some excellent hits from seventeen Erica Woods. With the Kodiaks gaining, the Ooks called their first time out of the set in hopes of regrouping and shifting the momentum. The Kodiaks tied the match back up, taking the lead for the first time. It was short-lived, with the Ooks taking it back. The Ooks took the set 25-22.
The Kodiaks took the lead early in the third set, but the Ooks weren't far behind with a great hit from seventeen Kayla Zazula. Nonetheless, the Kodiaks were effectively shutting down the Ooks' offense. With the Ooks looking to shift momentum, they called a timeout; however, it didn't slow the Kodiaks down. The Kodiaks won the set 25-12 Ooks led the match 2-1 after three.
In the fourth set, the Kodiaks took the lead early with massive back-row hits from number three Jamie Brown. The set was neck and neck, both teams not giving way, but the Kodiaks finally started to pull away, leading the set with a three-point lead. The Ooks weren't out yet and slowly closed the gap with some great offensive and defensive plays. However, the Ooks were unable to get through the Kodiaks' defense. Kodiaks take the set 25-21 tieing the match up 2-2.
In the fifth set, the Ooks took the lead early. However, the Kodiaks weren't far behind, tieing it back up quickly. The set was neck and neck until the Kodiaks took the lead, pulling away from the Ooks. The Ooks called a timeout in an effort to regroup; however, it wasn't enough, and the Kodiaks took the set 15-10, winning the match 3-2.
